A leader in the design, manufacture, and supply of oilfield equipment had recently purchased land to build a world-class manufacturing facility. The new location would be designed to capture future growth but needed to be sized correctly; not a wasteful over-construction yet not too small at the same time.
The senior executive team felt simulation modeling would allow them to analyze their manufacturing processes, identify bottlenecks, capture productivity improvements, and properly size the new facility.

AUSA Global Force Symposium 2017
We recently participated in the 2017 Association of the United States Army (AUSA) Global Force Symposium 2017 in Huntsville, AL. It was a three-day event that explored capabilities outlined in the Army Operating Concept and how the force transforms from being adaptive to driving innovation for Force 2025 and beyond.
This is our third time exhibiting at this event and we enjoyed a very high volume of senior level people including many General Officers and Senior Executive Service members.
Key topics of discussion with our visitors included the following ProModel solutions:
- Logistics Readiness Center (LRC) Capacity Planner
- Army Materiel Command (AMC) Enterprise Capacity Platform
- Joint Forces Capabilities Catalogue (JFCC)
- Enterprise Portfolio Simulator (EPS) with budgeting capability
- ProModel Commercial off the Shelf (COTS) products: ProModel, MedModel, and Process Simulator our Microsoft® Visio® plug-in.
- Cost of readiness and readiness generation
Due to our long-standing history of delivering successful solutions to the Army, we have transitioned from simply providing AST and DST as great capabilities, to talking with Army leaders about how AST and DST can help drive and enhance the Army readiness picture.

From L to R Mr. Ed Agee Army Materiel Command and ProModel's Carl Napoletano, Keith Vadas, Rob Wedertz.

Simulation to Predict Effect of Citywide Events on Emergency Department Operations
Ferraro, Nicole M. MSc; Day, Theodore Eugene DSc
Pediatric Quality & Safety: January 2017 - Volume 2 - Issue 1 - p e008
Summary: Medical emergency preparedness has been an issue of medical relevance since the advent of hospital care. Studies have simulated emergency department (ED) overcrowding, but not yet characterized effects of large-scale, planned events that drastically alter a city’s demography, such as in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania during the 2015 World Meeting of Families.
A discrete event simulation of the ED at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia was designed and validated using past data. The model was used to predict the patient length of stay (LOS) and number of admitted patients if the arrival stream to the ED were to change by 50% from typical arrivals in either direction. We compared the model’s estimations with data produced during the papal visit that had 39.65% fewer patient arrivals. Read Full Text

Ancillary Tools Helpful for a Successful ProModel Discrete Event Simulation Project
Blog Post by Professor Scott Metlen, Ph.D. University of Idaho
Using ProModel to teach process management inadvertently necessitates that students become more proficient with many tools centered on data and working with people. Of course, students learn many aspects of ProModel such as the need to understand parts of a process; these include locations, entities, arrival rates, process logic (LEAP), variables, and attributes. Training
ProModel offers comprehensive training for all our modeling software. We provide basic, advanced and custom training taught by our expert instructors and consultants. You can choose between pre-scheduled public classes at one of our locations or we also offer private on-site trainings or jump-starts scheduled at your convenience and at your own facilities.
Refresher Training Videos Available
We have been conducting live monthly refresher training webinars for commercial customers with current maintenance agreements. In January and March, we conducted a comprehensive 3-hour Process Simulator refresher training.
In February, we taught ProModel and MedModel. You can now access these videos as well as the pdf of the presentation and the demo models on our website here: Access Webinar Materials.
Public Classes
The following basic courses are scheduled on a monthly basis and are a great way to get you started using your simulation tools. To see a schedule of available courses or course outlines click here.
Simulation Essentials
Designed for the new user, this three-day course focuses on elements of understanding simulation technology and model building using ProModel or MedModel, as appropriate for your industry. Includes the mechanics of model building and understanding how to analyze your model results with the Output Viewer. This course features hands-on model building and is designed to provide a solid foundation for future projects.
Process Simulator Basics
Everything you need to know to get started with Process Simulator. This introductory class teaches how to effectively use Process Simulator, our Visio based simulation tool. This is a live, instructor led, interactive training. It is usually an 8-hour online course, typically taught in two four-hour blocks on consecutive days.
Attendees will use Process Simulator to build simulation models, add simulation properties to existing Visio flowcharts, define and run multiple scenarios to determine the best process design, and analyze process performance by viewing summary statistics, bar charts, histograms, and time-series graphs of key process performance indicators.
On-Site Training
We will send one of our instructors to your location for a two- or three-day intensive training seminar for up to ten students at a location of your choosing. Your staff can become proficient in any of the ProModel software packages at a reasonable price.
Jump-Start Training
Jump-Start training is an excellent way to "jump-start" a specific project based on ProModel predictive technology. We will help you get started and take you as far as you wish to go. A great way to start a project and get some training at the same time!
YouTube Training Videos
ProModel provides training videos posted on YouTube to help you with many specific topics. Please visit the ProModel Channel to search for videos that will give you tips and tricks to help you find solutions for your modeling projects.
