ProModel - Autodesk Partnership and Autodesk Edition Products
We have entered into a collaborative “partnership” with Autodesk, the makers of AutoCAD, Inventor, Factory Design Utilities and many more great software products geared towards building anything. The partnership involves both product development and a joint marketing agreement.
On the product side, we are excited to announce the latest release of the extremely powerful and easy to use ProModel Optimization Suite-Autodesk Edition. You can build ProModel models right from within AutoCAD.

Lastly on the Autodesk front, plan to attend this year’s Autodesk University November 17-20 from the comfort of your own office. The event will be held virtually this year and there is no cost to attend. ProModel may be presenting the following two classes:

Belimed Success Story – Driving Productivity with Simulation
Belimed Infection Control delivers medical and surgical instrument sterilization, disinfection, and cleaning products and services. They completed a project using ProModel software and given the current environment, we thought it was appropriate to share this now.
The Surgical department of a top-rated Adventist hospital system in Central Florida was growing rapidly through the addition of a Women’s Center and expanding their Organ Transplant, Oncology, Cardiovascular, and Orthopedic surgical programs.
Their 37 operating rooms (ORs) were supported by a Central Sterile Supply Department (CSSD) that recognized immediate productivity improvements were necessary if it were to meet increasing surgical case demands.
To address this challenge, a Process Improvement (PI) team was assembled by the hospital to focus on improving efficiency, driving out waste, and increasing throughput in the CSSD. Click to read the rest of the case study.
Providing Support During the Pandemic and Beyond TOP
FutureFlow Rx is in use at 3 of the country’s top children’s hospitals including Seattle Children’s, Children’s Hospital Colorado and a prominent east coast children’s hospital.
FutureFlow Rx is a Data Platform as a Service that specializes in accurate census predictions at the unit department level for superior decision support on bed sizing, staffing, PPE and other hospital capacity constraints.
The highly accurate predictions are a result of the approach of modeling each individual patient both known and predicted and applying data analytics to how they will flow through the hospital and for how long. FutureFlow Rx was used last Flu season, as well as during the pandemic to help respond to one state Governor’s request. It will be used again to help better prepare for the upcoming flu season.

New Reporting and Analysis Features TOP
The Model Health report helps you identify and resolve data issues for more accurate modeling and analysis. With this release, the Model Health report now checks for exceeded height and weight limits and also verifies correct stacking behavior for parent / child relationships. In addition, you can now use Data Processing scripting to define custom logic for the Model Health features. This provides an additional layer of proofing and validation.

ORION Helps Joint Staff Analyze Increased Medical Forces Demand due to COVID-19
Over the course of the last few years, ORION (the Joint Staff’s Global Force Management Decision Support Tool) has been instrumental in providing a no-risk environment to conduct Course of Action (COA) analysis in support of the National Defense Strategy. The Global Visibility Capability of forces (Capabilities, Readiness, Availability, and Employment; or CRAE) within ORION provides senior leaders with critical information to inform risk assessments associated with the employment of forces.
In the Spring of this year, as COVID-19 escalated into a global pandemic, the Joint Staff once again leveraged ORION to inform decisions associated with the employment of medical forces to meet the significant demand, both nationally and globally. Because ORION provides the current and future disposition of units (such as Medical Squadrons, Medical Groups, Expeditionary Field Hospitals, Medical Support Units, etc.), the Joint Staff was well equipped to get the right capability to the right location at the right time.
ORION continues to evolve to meet the ever-changing global environment in support of the Joint Staff.

An Introduction to Manufacturing Process Simulation at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology
Dr. Jay McCormack is an Associate Professor of mechanical engineering at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, IN. Dr. McCormack shares his experience as they integrated a process simulation project into their curriculum.
He stated, “Our students are exposed to many manufacturing methods and work in depth with a few, but never had any exposure to manufacturing process. This is arguably appropriate content for any mechanical engineer but, a robotics minor is popular with our mechanical engineers, and many of the robotics students end up in positions related to manufacturing. Additionally, many biomedical engineers take the course and end up working as process engineers for medical device manufacturers. Therefore, the need was there for students to get a first exposure to manufacturing process and process simulation.”
He gives details on the reasons, they felt this was important, the project outcomes, the project overview, takeaways they learned and he even shares the full project they used. This certainly help you if you are looking for ways to implement process simulation into any of your course.

Updates for Simulation Using ProModel Textbook Coming Soon – Feedback Requested
Publication Announcement: The fourth edition of Simulation Using ProModel by Biman Ghosh, Royce Bowden, Bruce Gladwin, and Charles Harrell will be published by Cognella Academic Publishing and will be available for course use in Fall 2021.
If you’ve used a previous edition of the text in your courses, the authors want to hear from you. Please consider taking this two-question survey to provide feedback and suggestions for the forthcoming textbook.
Upcoming Events TOP
In addition to Autodesk University, we are also exhibiting and speaking at the 2020 Winter Simulation Conference Dec 13-16 in Orlando FL. As of now, the event will be in person, but will also contain a virtual component so that you may be able to watch some of the presentations remotely.
